Joint & Bone Initiative

MSK Innovation Competition

The Bone and Joint Institute in partnership with the Pierre L. Morrissette Institute for Entrepreneurship invited London-based entrepreneurs working in musculoskeletal (MSK) health research to pitch innovative research ideas to a panel of friendly investors in the inaugral MSK Innovation Competition announced in the spring of 2019.

This initiative aimed to cultivate skill sets that enable ideas to be successfully pitched to investors and promote entrepreneurial spirit. The competition was open to all London-based entrepreneurial MSK researchers (e.g. academia, research institutions, research hospitals, startups, etc.).

Each innovation team was required to include at least one Western faculty member, but anyone with the entrepreneurial itch could lead an application!

While the research idea had to be novel and sound, the competition was for the best pitch – i.e. the presentation that best convinced the investor panel on the value of the idea and how the $30,000 award would improve and/or better illustrate the potential and commercial value of the innovative idea itself.
