Systemic Sclerosis Research Funded

BJI Researchers Drs Andrew Leask and Janet Pope have recently obtained a Collaborative Health Research Projects (CHRP) grant from CIHR/NSERC for ~$600,000 spread over three years. In collaboration with their corporate partner BLR Bio, a startup located in Kenosha WI founded by Dr Bruce Riser, Pope and Leask aim to uncover a new treatment for the autoimmune connective tissue disease scleroderma (Systemic Sclerosis, SSc). SSc is a debilitating often-fatal disease characterized by organ fibrosis (scarring) resulting in loss of mobility and muscle weakness, among other systems. The group hopes to initiate clinical trials for SSc at the end of the funding period"
