Joint & Bone Initiative

MSK Innovation Competition

NOTICE - Our team is closely monitoring the evolving situation with the COVID-19 pandemic. We believe in the competition, but the most important thing is personal safety. Therefore, we are postponing the competition. We will continually assess the risk and re-launch the competition when the risk assessment allows.

The Bone and Joint Institute in partnership with the Pierre L. Morrissette Institute for Entrepreneurship invites London-based entrepreneurs working in musculoskeletal (MSK) health to pitch innovative ideas to a panel of friendly judges in this year's competition.

First launched in the spring of 2019, this initiative (program overview PDF) aims to cultivate skill sets that enable innovative ideas to be successfully pitched to investors and promote entrepreneurial spirit. The stage of development is not restricted. Anyone on the commercialization path is welcome to participate. The competition is open to all London-based entrepreneurial MSK experts (e.g. academia, research institutions, research hospitals, start-ups, etc.).

Each innovation team was required to include at least one Western faculty member, but anyone with the entrepreneurial itch could lead an application!

While the idea has to be novel and sound, the competition is for the best pitch – i.e. the presentation that best convinces the panel on the value of the idea and how the $30,000 award will improve and/or better illustrate the potential and commercial value of the idea itself is the key to success.
