"As a physician scientist hand surgeon clinical relevance is always the priority of my research. My research is focused on injuries and conditions that commonly affect the upper extremity, such as flexor tendon injuries, carpal bone fractures and most recently arthritis of the thumb. the main tool I use to investigate these conditions is biomechanical simulators and advanced imaging.

Flexor tendon has been the focus of my research for many years. I have extensively investigated ways to improve the treatment of this difficult to treat injury. These investigations have led to accomplishments such as a new animal model for flexor tendon research; a novel ultra-lubricant for flexor tendon; and a novel medical device to staple flexor tendons. Most recently I've been engaging in establishing an advanced imaging modality to improve care of these injuries.

Another field of research that fascinates me is injuries to the carpal bones of the hand. Through a combination of clinical observation and advanced imaging we were able to make new discoveries about the vascularity to the carpal bones. "
