Dr. Ryan Degen is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in athletic injuries of the hip, shoulder and knee. Originally from London, Dr. Degen completed his undergraduate degree at Western University, before leaving to attend the Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine at McMaster University. He returned to Western University for his residency training in orthopedic surgery, during which he also completed a Masters of Science in Medical Biophysics. After residency, Dr. Degen pursued a Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, where he was able to work with several world experts in the field.

During his time in New York, he served as an Assistant Team Physician for the New York Rangers (NHL) and New York Red Bulls (MLS), gaining expertise in the on- and off-field treatment of various athletic injuries. In addition to his clinical experience, Dr. Degen was also active in performing basic science and clinical research in the areas of hip impingement and shoulder instability.In August 2017, Dr. Degen joined the Orthopedic Sports Medicine Team at the Fowler Kennedy Sport Medicine Clinic. His research interests include hip impingement and resultant joint biomechanics, and clinical outcomes following surgical treatment of hip injuries. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, and is currently a member of several orthopaedic societies including the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM), American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS) and the Canadian Orthopedic Association (COA).
