Memorandum: Matthew Teeter appointed BJI Interim Director

Dear Bone and Joint Institute members and partners,

Please join me in welcoming and congratulating Matthew Teeter, who has been appointed Interim Director of the Bone and Joint Institute, effective February 1, 2023.

Matt comes on my recommendation, with the full support of Deans of the Faculties of Health Sciences, Engineering, Social Science, Science, and the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry. His role will continue until June 30, 2024 or such time as a new director has been hired, whichever comes sooner.

Matt began his journey in transdisciplinary musculoskeletal research as a trainee at Western and has quickly established himself as a leader in this space. His research program aims to enhance patient mobility and quality of life after joint replacement through the development and application of medical imaging and digital technologies.

An active Bone and Joint Institute member over the years, Matt has served on the training and education committee, various event planning committees, Catalyst Grants Program and MSK Innovation Competition committees, and he most recently took on the role of Associate Director of Training and Innovation at the institute. His engagement will serve him and the community well in his new role as interim director.

Matt is an Associate Professor in the Departments of Medical Biophysics, Medical Imaging and Surgery in the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry and is a Scientist at Robarts Research Institute and Lawson Health Research Institute.

We appreciate Matt’s leadership and look forward to him helping advance the institute's mission while the search for the full-time director continues.

Thank you for your ongoing commitment to the Bone and Joint Institute, Matt!
