Here at the Bone and Joint Institute, we would like to recognize and celebrate the outstanding work being done across our community. This week, we are highlighting a study published in the Journal of Biomechanics titled
Test-retest reliability and longitudinal validity of drop vertical jump biomechanics during rehabilitation after ACL reconstruction, with contributions from BJI members Professor Dianne Bryant, Dr. Robert Giffin, Professor Trevor Birmingham, and Professor James P. Dickey at Western University. The research examines how clinicians evaluate recovery after ACL reconstruction using a movement test called the drop vertical jump, which helps identify movement asymmetries and assess readiness to return to sport. The findings show that improvements in knee strength are strongly associated with better landing mechanics, reinforcing the importance of strength training during later stages of rehabilitation. This work highlights the impact of research within the Bone and Joint Institute, where members contribute expertise that advances rehabilitation strategies and supports better patient outcomes.
