BJI Researcher Dr. Lawendy to Lead Ontario Emergency Action Team
Congratulations to BJI researcher Dr. Abdel-Rahman Lawendy on his appointment as Chair of Ontario’s new Emergency Department Action Team (EDAT).
Dr. Lawendy recently spoke with the London Free Press about the initiative, which will work with 26 hospitals across Ontario to identify bottlenecks in emergency departments, improve patient flow and help reduce wait times.
As an orthopaedic surgeon, researcher and health-care leader, Dr. Lawendy has long focused on finding innovative ways to improve how care is delivered. His work at London Health Sciences Centre has included advancing more efficient approaches to surgical care, experience he will now bring to addressing challenges facing emergency departments across the province.
The Emergency Department Action Team will work directly with hospitals to examine delays throughout the patient journey, from initial assessment and diagnostic testing to admission or discharge.
Dr. Lawendy’s appointment is an exciting opportunity to bring his experience in research, clinical care and health-system innovation to a challenge affecting patients across Ontario.
