Alan Getgood is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in disorders of the knee and shoulder. Originally from Northern Ireland, Dr. Getgood qualified from the University of Edinburgh Medical School in 2000. He moved to England where he completed his orthopedic residency and doctoral research at the University of Cambridge.Dr. Getgood acquired his sports fellowship training here in London, at the Fowler Kennedy Sport Medicine Clinic, and at Banff Sport Medicine in Alberta. He undertook further fellowship training in soft tissue reconstructive knee surgery in Coventry (UK), with a particular emphasis on complex ligament reconstruction and biological approaches to joint repair. Following this, he joined the team in Coventry as Associate Professor at the University of Warwick, specializing in complex knee surgery including ligament reconstruction, meniscus transplantation and cartilage repair.In September 2012, Dr.Getgood returned to London to take on a new position here at the Fowler Kennedy Sport Medicine Clinic. His research interests include biological solutions to joint repair, in which he collaborates with the Musculoskeletal Biology Scientists at Western.He has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, and is currently on the General Board of the International Cartilage Repair Society and Education committee of the International Society for Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopedic Sports Medicine (ISAKOS). He is a member of the ACL study group and American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM).
