Assistant Professor

Dr. Caitlin Symonette joined the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in 2019 following completion of her Hand and Microsurgery Fellowship in Vancouver. Her primary research focus is on the development of “DIGITS” which is a remote interactive interface linking the provider and patient through their hand rehabilitation journey. The software uses augmented reality to provide objective assessments of small joint range of motion and only requires a device with a front facing camera and internet connection. Future directions of the project include developing large patient datasets to link compliance with rehabilitation protocols to outcome measures to improve predictions of return to baseline function following injury or surgery. DIGITS was nominated as a finalist in the 2022 London Chamber of Commerce Business Innovation Category.
